The New Zealand Masters Billiards and Snooker Association
The Taupo Masters was founded in 1989 by Barney Erickson and Rob Elvin the first tournament being run in what was the Taupo Club at the time and was won by Barry Moore
After several years running with a committee comprising of Barney Erickson, Rob Elvin, Russell White, Rex Kennedy & Lloyd Lawrence the New Zealand Masters Billiards and Snooker association (NZMBSA) was formed in 1994
The NZMBSA as of present has in excess of two hundred and fifty members controls eleven tournaments throughout the North Island with a controlled tournament number of forty eight per tournament except the Nationals which has eighty or the Tauranga tournament which has Sixty entries
These two tournaments are held turn about each year one in Taupo next year same tournament in Tauranga with the corresponding entries changing each year
The criteria for members is Men over forty and Ladies over 35
All tournaments are handicap set which creates a level playing field and some close contests and allows everyone a chance to succeed
